2023 Midland, TX Workforce Update

2023 has been a great year for Midland, TX in terms of growth, workforce, and labor. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the Midland MSA has led the nation for the past 8 months in percentage gains in employment.

For 8 months in a row, Midland has topped other metropolitan areas in employment growth in 2023. According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Texas is currently first in the nation for annual job growth with 441,700 new positions added between July 2022 and July 2023.

The Texas Workforce Commission also reported on Midland’s labor force showing record unemployment numbers for the area in 2023. The state of Texas has a very active workforce with over 82% of Texas between the age of 20 and 54 participating in the labor force.

Texas’s labor force participation rate of 64.2% is also 1.6% higher than the U.S. national average.
