Midland residents will continue to see downtown transform in 2026, as additional hotel rooms, parking, and retail and meeting space enter the next stage of development. Two downtown hotels, the Locklin by Tapestry Hilton and the Omni Midland, will break ground in Q1 2026. These projects are the result of the collaborative efforts of the Midland Development Corporation (MDC), the City of Midland, and key local investors. Both hotels plan to open late 2027 or early 2028.

Hotel Capacity and Features

The new Locklin Hotel is a reimagining and repurposing of a historic six-story building originally constructed in 1927 and initially used as a hospital. Construction will preserve this structure while an adjoining second six-story tower is constructed. The new hotel will comprise 34,000 square feet, complete with 80 guest rooms, a board room, a fitness facility, and an upscale restaurant and bar. The hotel is expected to staff 60 employees, including its restaurant.

The Omni Midland Hotel will be a new four-star addition to downtown West Texas Ave and will host 143 rooms, meeting rooms, a ballroom, a spa, a pool deck, and multiple food and beverage options, including Bob’s Steak and Chop House. Retail space will be available on the first floor, along with an adjoining 800-space parking garage. From construction to operation, the Omni Midland project will bring numerous new job opportunities to the area.

How These Hotels Benefit Midland

Both hotels aim to attract millions of dollars in economic activity to the nearby Bush Convention Center, providing convenient, comfortable, and quality accommodations for citizens and travelers alike. The new downtown developments will attract more conferences, conventions, and events to the center. Visitors will no longer bypass downtown when attending weddings, galas, corporate meetings, and other signature events located in Midland.

All Midland tax entities will also benefit from this revitalization effort, including Midland’s school district, hospital, college, county, city, and downtown development district. In addition to generating new jobs, the Locklin and Omni Midland will elevate surrounding properties’ value while increasing its own tax base. Local, state, and federal taxes collected from sales fund the government and its agencies, which, in turn, translate into improved infrastructure and increased essential services.

We’re Renovating Midland’s Skyline

The MDC is thrilled these two pivotal components to Midland’s downtown revitalization are entering their next stage of development, and we eagerly anticipate these properties serving as the catalyst that brings more innovation to the Midland area.
