Landmark Moment for West Texas Pets: Permian Basin Veterinary Diagnostic Hospital Breaks Ground
8 Oct 2026
News
Community leaders, city officials, and veterinary professionals gathered along Loop 250 on June 11 to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the Permian Basin Veterinary Diagnostic Hospital (PBVDH). Hailed by doctors as a landmark moment for local animal care, the upcoming 8,000-square-foot facility is set to become the largest specialized pet hospital in the region.
Filling a Critical Emergency Care Gap
Historically, local pet owners facing emergency medical situations or needing specialized surgical care often had to travel out of town. In emergency cases, those lost minutes can make all the difference for a critically ill or injured pet.
The new facility brings high-level diagnostic tools, emergency response, and surgical capabilities directly to Midland. The facility plans to house the area's first dedicated MRI machine for pets, paired with comprehensive diagnostic and surgical suites designed for complex cases. These capabilities will serve members of communities across the broader Permian Basin region, as well as Midland citizens.
Economic Impact/Job Creation
The project carries significant economic momentum alongside its medical impact. Supported in part by an agreement with the Midland Development Corporation (MDC), the hospital receives economic development incentives tied to performance metrics.
Under the agreement, PBVDH receives up to $160,000 in incentives tied to creating at least 32 full-time, high-wage jobs in the region. These positions include five licensed veterinarians as well as skilled veterinary technicians, diagnostic specialists, and support personnel.
Looking Ahead
Construction on the Loop 250 site is underway, with project completion expected in the spring of 2027. Once open, PBVDH aims to provide round-the-clock peace of mind for pet owners across West Texas.
Future project updates and information will be published to the MDC website and socials.
